On the morning of June 22, a delegation of the Brazilian Association of Rectors of State and Municipal Universities (ABRUEM) visited Shenzhen University. Li Yonghua, Vice President of Shenzhen University, met with the delegation in Room 201, Huiyuan Building. The ABRUEM delegation was led by Professor Leonardo da Silva, Rector of the Rio Grande do Sul State University (UERGS). It included over 30 rectors and senior representatives from top public universities in Brazil, such as Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ) and State University of Northern Paraná (NENP). The visit seeks to deepen mutual understanding and practical cooperation between China and Brazil in higher education, with in-depth dialogues focused on academic exchanges and faculty-student mobility with Chinese counterparts.
Li Yonghua gave the delegation an overview of Shenzhen University's development journey, disciplinary strengths, internationalization strategy, and long-term development vision, emphasizing that Shenzhen University has always embraced global cooperation with an open attitude. Professor Leonardo da Silva highly commended Shenzhen University's outstanding accomplishments in interdisciplinary research, innovation and entrepreneurship education, and international education, and expressed a strong willingness to deepen bilateral cooperation. Pan Yanchun, Dean of the College of International Exchange, further introduced Shenzhen University's campus facilities, student life, and international student admission policies, and welcomed Brazilian students to pursue further studies at Shenzhen University.
During the open discussion segment, multiple rectors from Brazilian public universities said they admired Shenzhen University's extraordinary development over more than 40 years, which has made it one of the fastest-improving universities worldwide. They were deeply impressed by the university's layout of interdisciplinary structure, and pointed out that Shenzhen University's keen insight into cutting-edge academic developments can serve as valuable experience for Brazilian universities. Several rectors specifically mentioned that Shenzhen University's industry-oriented development model provides a valuable example for Brazilian institutions to advance industry-university-research integration. The openness and vitality reflected in Shenzhen University's international education make it an ideal collaborative partner. This exchange opened up great opportunities for deep cooperation in joint research and faculty-student exchange programs. The delegation hopes to promote the signing of inter-university agreements as soon as possible to deliver tangible academic exchanges and cooperation.
This visit is of great significance for Shenzhen University to strengthen cooperation with Brazil's higher education sector. It boosts mutual understanding of educational philosophies and disciplinary development, further expands Shenzhen University's international cooperation network in Latin America, and takes the university's internationalization strategy to a new level.
