From June 7 to 14, 2026, Xu Bo, Party Secretary of Shenzhen University, led a delegation on a visit to Argentina and Brazil for academic exchanges. The delegation visited a number of key local universities, specialized think tanks, and overseas Chinese associations, signed multiple memorandums of understanding for inter-university cooperation, and reached agreements on several practical cooperation initiatives. During the visit, the delegation forged a comprehensive cooperation network spanning the Spanish-speaking and Portuguese-speaking regions of South America, effectively enhancing Shenzhen University's overseas visibility and international educational influence.
In Argentina, the delegation first paid a visit to the University of Buenos Aires, a top public university in Latin America. The two sides held university-level talks and signed a memorandum of understanding, identifying law and business as priority cooperation areas, with plans to gradually expand exchanges in emerging interdisciplinary fields such as artificial intelligence and big data. The delegation toured the university's Confucius Institute to gain an in-depth understanding of the institute's operation models for Chinese language teaching and community cultural services, gathering practical experience for Shenzhen University to carry out international Chinese education and promote Chinese culture overseas.
The delegation then visited the National University of La Matanza, the National University of the Delta, the Strategic Dialogues Foundation (Argentina), and the Guangdong Chamber of Commerce in Argentina. They held thorough consultations focusing on foreign-related legal research, faculty and student exchanges, joint talent training, and international student recruitment, reaching multiple cooperation agreements. A collaborative platform integrating universities, think tanks, and overseas Chinese business communities was built to further boost Shenzhen University's visibility in Argentina.
While in Brazil, the delegation visited the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, a renowned private Brazilian institution with a particularly strong reputation in legal studies across Portuguese-speaking regions. Using the law schools as a pilot initiative for cooperation, both sides will advance regular exchanges including faculty and student visits and joint academic seminars. Leveraging the university's well-established Confucius Institute, they reached an agreement on sharing Portuguese language resources and conducting joint research on Brazilian local culture, enriching the dimensions of bilateral academic and people-to-people exchanges.
The delegation also paid a return visit to the Alvarez College of Business, a partner of the university. Both sides reviewed past cooperation achievements and formulated a new round of cooperation plans based on their respective strengths in supply chain management, big data, and marketing. Short-term winter and summer study tour programs will be launched, under which Shenzhen University will organize students to attend courses and visit local enterprises in Brazil. Through study tours, faculty-student visits, and academic seminars, the two sides will deepen and broaden their cooperation.
The delegation also held discussions with officials from the General Association of Guangdong Fellow Townsmen in Brazil and the Consular and Overseas Chinese Affairs Section of the Chinese Consulate General in São Paulo. Relying on resources from overseas Chinese consulates and Chinese associations abroad, Shenzhen University will establish a regular communication mechanism with Brazil's education sector, expand channels for recruiting international students from South America, and continuously strengthen the university's brand recognition among Portuguese-speaking South American countries.
This fruitful overseas visit has filled gaps in Shenzhen University's regional cooperation layout in Argentina and Brazil, forming a multi-level external exchange system featuring inter-university collaboration, think tank coordination, and support from overseas Chinese communities. Taking this visit as an opportunity, Shenzhen University will further deepen partnerships with South American universities, contributing actively to elevating its international education standards and supporting the national strategy of opening up education to the outside world.
